Welcome to the twenty sixth article in the series “Be the Leader You Aspire to Be” here on The Price of Business Show, where I will focus on the trends which lie ahead of us and how they will affect humans and businesses. The articles are based on my book Energetic Leadership, which talks about 9 trends leaders must navigate to cater for employees increasing demand for more spiritual leadership and sustainable business models aligned with their life purposes. These articles are about business leadership in the new era. I hope you will find inspiration for your own leadership and the leader you aspire to be.
The last articles have outlined 9 trends for business leadership and focused on authentic curiosity as a key competency for leaders to master. They have explained the concept of energy frequencies as the source of our true potential, followed by the alignment of the company’s purpose with the life purposes of employees and customers.
They have covered the 6-5 different generations currently working, focused on self-care and the ability to be present and what uncertainty was about and how to navigate in it. They have talked about the importance of intuition in decision-making and what a healthy economy and society are and how we all can improve democracy.
The articles have looked at customer journeys built on healthy energy and how intuition and resilience can improve productivity. They have been about the world as a mirror of how we are doing as multi-dimensional humans and what we do with true AI. And they have been about the change of Change Management both in terms of timelines and content and the urgent need for a new Leadership Playbook which is about people first and foremost based on curiosity, consciousness and freedom and how we get there.
In this article I look at how exhausted leaders make simple strategies and improve leadership.
The answer is actually very simple.
Exhausted leaders can gain time and energy by starting to look after themselves.
But why are leaders exhausted?
It is not just because they are not looking after themselves it is also because crisis and challenges are arriving at high speed and more and more often from the outside world – and will only increase if we look at the future trends in the horizon.
As humans we can feel exhausted in two ways – when life and work is hard because we have a life and work, we do not like or want. Or it can feel difficult because we have a life and work, we do want but we are in the process of learning new skills. The first situation comes with bad energy and motivation. The last one comes with good energy and motivation.
So, it is all about our mindset and how much responsibility we take for our lives.
According to James Allen the author and the partner at Bain & Co he puts it this way in a podcast and newsletter by the Danish Business Media Børsen with the journalist Niels Lunde:
Niels Lunde asks: What are they (the leaders) busy with right now?
James Allen’s answer: Taking care of their time.
Allan is currently conducting a series of meetings with global CEOs and has held approximately 500 online meetings with 4,000 CEOs since the Corona crisis broke out in 2020.
James Allen talks about the series of meetings in the podcast “The CEO Strategy”, and when Niels starts by asking him if leaders are overwhelmed by everything that is happening in these chaotic times, he answers:
“No, they are not overwhelmed, but many of them are exhausted. It is a serious challenge because exhausted leaders create complicated strategies that are difficult to understand.”
“And vice versa: Leaders with energy create simple strategies that are easy to understand.”
So are you an exhausted leader, here is what you do to get more time and energy.
You start to engage in Energetic Leadership – which is:
- to be curious about strategic foresight – you must know the consequences of future trends
- to be present and involved in your own personal development
- to be responsible and diligent in how you make transformations in your job and business
You need to look up and out!
You need to look in!
You need to combine your insight and act based on your experience, knowledge and intuition.
When you look after yourself you become calm, it creates energy, you gain courage for the strategies and decisions you need to make.
Enjoy Energetic Leadership!
