Actor James Caan, who was 82 years old when he died on July 6, 20ss, is sadly missed by his legions of fans and peers that transcend generations, just like the actor. The Oscar-nominated actor had a long and varied career in films that ranged from “The Godfather” to “Brian’s Song.” While he opted for an unconventional life, the impact of his portrayals will live on long after the headlines of his passing die down.

During his Sixties years as an actor, James Caan’s movies didn’t typically become box-office hits, but he did manage to score a few Emmy nominations and starred in TV shows before moving to the big screen. One such TV appearance, Brian’s Song, starred the actor as a terminally ill professional football player (Brian Piccollo) and his friendship with legendary athlete, Gale Sayers. His performance in this movie was praised by fellow actor Billy Dee Williams, who co-starred with Caan in the 1971 sports drama TV movie “Brian’s Song.”

After the death of Caan on Wednesday, fans shared condolences with his family and friends on Twitter. James Caan was best known for his role as Sonny Corleone in 1972’s The Godfather. He also enjoyed a lengthy career after playing Sonny Corleone. In addition to playing the violent enforcer, he had many other starring roles, which is what led to his Oscar nomination. Younger people likely remember him best in the comedy “Elf” and other more recent projects.
