In this article I will look at how we can make better decision-making with Energetic Leadership.
The missing piece in your decision-making framework isn’t more data; it’s the wisdom we’re ignoring.
In an age of “infobesity,” where leaders drown in qualitative and quantitative data yet struggle with decision paralysis, the problem isn’t insufficient information. It’s incomplete intelligence.
Think of decision-making like fabric. If the fabric consists of only rational intelligence threads running in one direction, you have what amounts to a flabby, weak material that can barely be called fabric at all. But when you weave in sensory, intuitive threads perpendicular to those rational ones, you create strong, resilient fabric capable of withstanding real-world tension.
That’s the state of modern decision-making: we’re operating with half the material we need.
Einstein warned us decades ago: “The intuitive mind is a sacred gift, and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”
Western business culture has trained leaders to rely exclusively on traditional decision-making limited, rational, and data driven. We analyze conviction, recognition, arguments, and empirical evidence. This is the language of the body and mind, the control system we’ve mastered.
But we’ve systematically ignored intuitive decision-making the infinite, wisdom-drawing capacity that taps into bodily intuition (signs, clues, synchronicity), emotional intuition (sensing energy and mirroring), mental intuition (recognizing patterns in the collective unconscious), and spiritual intuition (premonitions, dreams, revelations). This is the language of the soul, our operating system for true innovation.
The result? Strategic foresight that’s reactionary rather than visionary. Short-term planning masquerading as long-term vision. Leaders who can describe every metric but can’t sense when their organization’s energy is blocked or when a customer relationship is deteriorating before the numbers confirm it.
We’ve moved from a VUCA world (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) to a BANI world (Brittle, Anxious, Non-linear, Incomprehensible) framework developed by Jamais Cascio. Linear, data-only approaches don’t work in non-linear realities. You cannot analyze your way through incomprehensibility; you must learn to sense and navigate it.
Moreover, the better your energy, the better your intuition. The better your intuition, the better your awareness. The better your awareness, the more creative you become. Intuition helps you draw not only from conscious analysis but from the vast ocean of unconscious wisdom and collective intelligence.
This isn’t mysticism. It’s recognizing that humans are biological transmitter masts, constantly receiving signals. We always receive these signals; they’re stored in our subconscious. The competitive advantage goes to leaders who learn to receive them consciously, process them, and integrate them with rational analysis.
What Leaders Can Do
- Train your energetic decision-making capacity. Before making critical decisions, pause. Breathe. Turn your gaze inward briefly. Tap into the situation with all your senses bodily, emotional, mental, intuitive. Find balance, then decide. This isn’t eliminating analysis; it’s completing it.
- Develop body awareness as a success factor. Your body is your alarm system and connection to inner resources. Practice daily body awareness: What physical sensations accompany this decision? What is your gut literally telling you?
What Companies Can Do
- Integrate silent listening into decision-making processes. Before finalizing strategies, allocate time for leaders to sit in silence, listen inwardly, and report what they’re sensing beyond the data. Create psychological safety where intuitive insights are valued alongside analytical ones. Track which decisions made with both rational and intuitive input produce better long-term outcomes.
- Reward execution that combines professional knowledge with intuitive insight. Stop penalizing employees who use intuition in customer interactions. When execution includes both process flow and energy flow when teams can sense what creates magic moments and what creates friction, efficiency and joy coexist.
The Path Forward
The future belongs to organizations that understand decision-making as the integration of the sacred gift (intuition) with the faithful servant (rational analysis). Not one or the other, both, woven together into strong fabric. It’s Energetic Leadership.
