Welcome to the thirty-sixth article in the series “Be the Leader You Aspire to Be” here on The Price of Business Show, where I will focus on the trends which lie ahead of us and how they will affect humans and businesses. The articles are based on my book Energetic Leadership, which talks about 9 trends leaders must navigate to cater for employees increasing demand for more spiritual leadership and sustainable business models aligned with their life purposes. These articles are about business leadership in the new era. I hope you will find inspiration for your own leadership and the leader you aspire to be.
In this article I look at how we can sustain high performance resilience through our energetic leadership, so we do not get burnt out.
Unfortunately, I have witnessed people both in my teams, at my workplace, in my family and among friends who have gotten burnt out. It comes in many variations. The signs of burning out can be clear and evident yet some more subtle. I asked one colleague how it felt, she said “I was driving around in the roundabout, and I did not know how to get out”. Or the one a quieter person who said, “I just couldn’t get out of my bed”. Or the sales manager who had a heart attack which was the body’s way of saying stop. The sales manager said: “I can see that I have made offers to customers, but I have no remembrance of me doing them”.
In today’s relentless business climate, leaders face an unprecedented paradox: the demand for constant high performance alongside a growing epidemic of burnout. While time and money have long been considered the primary currencies of success, a new perspective is emerging – one that recognizes energy as the most vital and renewable resource available to leaders and organizations.
Energetic Leadership is a forward-thinking framework designed to help executives, teams, and organizations harness, manage, and sustain energy to achieve long-term performance without depleting human potential. It’s a shift from managing tasks and time to managing vitality, focus, and presence. When leaders learn to direct energy consciously – their own and that of their teams – they unlock a profound competitive advantage: resilience that endures under pressure.
At its core, Energetic Leadership reframes leadership performance through the lens of energy intelligence. Just as emotional intelligence reshaped management thinking decades ago, energy intelligence is redefining how modern leaders achieve results. It begins with self-awareness, understanding personal energy patterns, identifying what drains or fuels performance, and recognizing how one’s energy influences others. Leaders who master this awareness become more intentional, balanced, and effective in their decisions and interactions.
Energy is contagious. Teams mirror the energetic state of their leaders. When leaders operate from clarity, calm, and conviction, they cultivate psychological safety, creativity, and collaboration which are essential ingredients of a high-performance culture. Conversely, when leaders operate from depletion or reactivity, that energy cascades through the organization, leading to disengagement and burnout. Energetic Leadership provides practical tools to interrupt that cycle, promoting balance without compromising results.
From a business standpoint, the implications are measurable. Companies that invest in energy-based leadership development report higher employee engagement, lower turnover, and improved innovation capacity. In essence, managing energy isn’t a “soft skill” it’s a strategic capability that drives hard outcomes. A leader’s energy shapes culture, and culture drives performance.
The model emphasizes three pillars: Energy Awareness, Energy Alignment, and Energy Amplification. Awareness involves understanding where energy is being spent and why. Alignment focuses on channeling that energy toward meaningful goals that inspire rather than exhaust. Amplification involves leveraging collective energy, building teams that elevate one another’s performance through trust, purpose, and shared momentum.
In an era where technology accelerates pace and complexity, resilience is no longer about endurance; it’s about regeneration. Energetic Leadership encourages leaders to view their well-being not as a personal indulgence, but as a strategic responsibility. By treating energy as seriously as time or money, leaders ensure they and their teams remain fully charged, focused, and adaptable. They are ready to meet challenges with clarity and confidence.
The future of leadership will belong to those who can sustain performance through balance, not burnout. Energetic Leadership offers the blueprint: a model for leading with energy, inspiring others, and thriving in even the most high-pressure environments.
Energetic Leadership covers areas like strategic foresight, personal development and business transformation. This is the edge leaders must claim. Energy becomes as important a resource as time or money.
